Nigerian sports star ,Fenando Adi has donated Ten Million Naira worth of food palliatives to Benue State Government, in response to the emergency due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Prof Mvendaga Jibo, made the presentation on behalf of Nigeria’s international Fanendo Adi, on, Wednesday, 27th May, 2020. Fanendo’s father Mr. Christopher Adi, Prof Jibo’s wife Dooshima, Fanendo’s in-law Terzungwe Anyo, and his wife were at the presentation of Fanendo Adi’s Covid-19 Food Palliative at the Deputy Governor’s office, Benue People’s House Makurdi.
Engr. Benson Abounu, the Deputy Governor and Chairman Benue State Action Committee on Covid-19, received the 2000 bags of rice on behalf of the State Government for the vulnerable in the state.
Prof Jibo, who described the event as an “important assignment,” said even though in far away United States Fanendo, has keen interest in what happens at home in Benue. “He has keen interest in the state and follows events at home closely, with special interest in development. He is also passionate about social justice for victims of violence in the state,” the erudite professor of Political Science said.
He added that the Benue born Nigerian international footballer is “very faithful to God and goes to Church, regularly in the US,” where he lives and play football.
According to Prof Jibo, Fanendo, who is under 30 “cares deeply for the people,” underscoring the essence of the gesture.
“This is not the first time he will be doing this,” Prof Jibo went on. In 2018, Fanendo built and donated a place to worship God at Ikyo Azande.
Engr. Abounu, who received the donation on behalf of the Government of Benue State said the donation would be used for the interest of humanity.
He noted that Fanendo, by his antecedents has shown that indeed the future belongs to the youth and prayed God to bless and reward him more.
“I think God has something for this young man and he will definetely get there. Here is a young man who thinks and perform. This is not the first time and I don’t think it will be the last time that he will be responding to the need of his people.
“He is is over there and is keen about what is happening here,” the Deputy Governor said and commended Fando’s father for bringing him up in the best moral standards.
Fanendo’s father Adi Christopher, said: “I really appreciate God for this wonderful gesture my son has presented to the Government of Benue State for the vulnerable. The palliative is just to tell you the proper upbringing of the young man; it is not to show riches but concern for humanity.”
To Terzungwe Anyo, Fanendo’s in-law, the Nigeria’s international “has a humane mind for people. He is deeply pained when people are suffering. It is agaisnt that backdrop that he sent in this palliative. He will be happy if this gets to the poor man.”
