The National Center for Disease and Control (NCDC) on Monday confirmed the Benue index case, Susan Okpe positive.
Prof. Steven Abah of the NCDC, Abuja, who was drafted to Benue by the Center to takeover the case made the confirmation during a media briefing held in Makurdi on Monday.
The confirmation has finally laid to rest issues raised by the patient on her status of COVID – 19 as well as issues bordering on her safety, and allegations that she was being detained against her will.
The State Government used the occasion to clear the air on the allegations made by the victim that she was being held forcefully.
State Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu who is also chairman of the State Action Committee on COVID – 19 explained that the patient had been uncooperative since she tested positive to the virus on Saturday.
He explained further that when the result was made known, the patient had resisted all attempts to be moved to a treatment center, according to laid down protocol.
According to him, the patient resisted all pleas to be moved until the intervention of her family members.
Abounu said the decision to keep her in isolation was first and foremost in her overall interest and secondly, in the interest of the general public in Benue.
