A CNN crew was arrested by police Friday morning while giving a live television report in Minneapolis, where the crew was covering ongoing protests over the death of George Floyd.

The crew, including correspondent Omar Jimenez, were handcuffed and detained as Jimenez gave a live report on a Minneapolis street.

The CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez and his crew were later freed from the Hennepin County Public Safety after their arrests on air from Minneapolis Friday morning.

CNN called for the release of Jimenez, producer Bill Kirkos and photojournalist Leonel Mendez after they were taken into custody while covering the unrest in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota State Police said the three were released when it was confirmed that they were members of the media. The crew had visible media credentials at the time of their arrests.
