The embattled Senator representing Adamawa North in the red carpet chambers of the National Assembly, Elisha Abbo, has reportedly offered the sum of N50 million to the nursing mother he assaulted in an adult shop in Abuja to save him from further embarrassment and shelve her planned legal action according to The Nigerian News.

TheNigerian News reports that a family source close to the lady that the Senator after the press conference reached out to Babara and her family in an attempt to get her to make a public statement, accepting his public apology and perhaps possibly shelve any further intentions to sue the 41-year-old for civil wrongs.

A source close to the Senator who also spoke to a correspondent of TheNigerian News on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the lawmaker had towed that path with the hope that a public statement from the victim accepting his apologies will go a long way to pacifying a large number of the public whose feathers were left unruffled by the CCTV footage uploaded online by Premium times.

The video which generated negative comments and widespread rebuke also attracted a chain of reactions from many quarters including the leaders of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Presidential candidate of the party and his vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. They scolded the young political leader for his display of barbarity and lawlessness.

The PDP as a party also summoned the Abbo for disciplinary actions as a statement released by the spokesperson of the party, Mr Kola Olagbondiyon also distanced the party from the unbecoming actions of the Senator. The police also reacted swiftly yesterday as the IGP ordered for the Senator’s arrest and prosecution.

Finally, the chairman of the National Assembly, Dr Ahmad Lawan also constituted a 7- man Adhoc committee to investigate the deeds of Senator and submit it’s findings within two weeks. This was during the consideration of the motion moved by the Senator representing Kaduna central, Uba Sani for the Senate to deal with the erring senator so as to redeem its image as a hallowed institution.

Though the offence of criminal assault is a crime against the state which can be prosecuted by the police or the attorney general as the case may be, Mrs Bibra can also enter a civil suit under the law of tort and claim damages from the young senator for the assault and battery. The above notwithstanding, the Senator might walk free if the victim directly intervenes indicating her interest in forgiving the Senator to the police.
