Soroptimist International maitama an Affliate of Soroptimist Internatinonal of Great Britain and Ireland under the auspices of SINA in Nigeria on Saturday the 18th of July joined the Junior chamber International JCI, Yali network and others to celebrate the Nelson Mandela day, The President of SI Maitama Mrs Stephanie Apel in her opening remarks thanked the partners and commended the spirit of oneness that they exhibited through out the period of working together from commencement of renovation through to the commissioning of the facility, She added that to make greater impact partnerships were very important.
The President quoting Helen Keller, said “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” She rounded up by praying that the facility will serve the orphans and vulnerable of Aso Pada community well.
The day started with a health outreach where the orphans and the vulnerable people in and around the Aso Pada community, A suburb of Abuja were tested and treated of minor illnesses and more serious ones taken over by the medical partners for continuation of treatment. After the health outreach, the commissioning of the renovated Alpha and Omega orphanage home premises and the 2 blocks of 6 classrooms commenced. The day culminated with the presentation of school sandals, bags, clothes, mattresses and other household items. The propritress of the orphanage Amb. Mrs Ariyo Elizabeth in her remarks thanked the partners for renovating the entire school premises and the hostel, thereby creating a conducive, living and learning environment for children. She added that with the installation of the solar panels the orphanage will remain lit, she prayed for God’s blessings and safe journey back for everyone.
